Bloom

Wendy Lu

The whispers of a thousand snowflakes slow-diving to the green
The vividness of bright purple-red, a day before the wilt
Raindrops rise, evaporate, lift from a mossy floor
Hungry grass basks in the light, the cool release of air

In a distance, a small cottage, alive with lights, worn with love and life
In a warm, cotton comfort, with flickers for company
Wood crackling in fireplace, smoke escaping the brick chimney

On the gravel path, car doors slam, footsteps mutter awake
A brown-eared pup’s soft barking, leaping to a treat
Mulch under blooming stars, condensation with the wakening sky

Clouds swaying in a dance with the breeze
Clarity a shiny light blue, reflecting the lake’s love
A doe drinking patiently as birds fly across the ripples
To arrive home, on branches that touch blooming leaves
