Fight Harder Than A Raindrop

By Sarah Brooker

A single drop
It falls from leaf to leaf- experiencing as it goes.
What a journey!
What freedom to feel everything pass by!

But it moves too fast.
The tree tops are only a blur in the memory.
The puddle is coming, but oh-
Too soon!

Grab
Grasp
At the things that slip by
A drop slides by, no notice is taken
A struggle to stay above.
It reaches to stop from drowning itself in the nearness of the puddle

Does no one care?
Other drops slide and slip
“They deserve the puddle” says the other drops as they hang in the clouds
Let them wait until they struggle away from the puddle.

Who’s laughing now?

Sarah Brooker is a lover and studier of all things creative. After picking up photography from a very young age, she started performing in middle school and in high school began writing creatively. She worked for several years as the technical director of an LGBT youth theater troupe and has found that the greatest inspirations, artistically and otherwise, come from listening to and empathizing with others. As a Global China Studies major with minors in Art History and Chinese, she hopes to bring to light the fascinating things about that which is often understudied—commonplace things.
